Naija Girls in Tech (NGiT) is proud to announce the launch of the Dele Ogun Legacy Scholarship in Tech, a special initiative created to honour the memory and enduring influence of the late Mr. Dele Ogun.
The scholarship celebrates the spirit of mentorship and opportunity that Mr. Ogun embodied throughout his life.
For NGiT Founder and CEO, Olufunmilayo Ogunwo-Adesanya, Mr. Ogun played a pivotal role in her early journey into technology. His encouragement and guidance helped spark a curiosity that would eventually lead to the creation of Naija Girls in Tech, an initiative dedicated to empowering young Nigerians with digital skills and opportunities.
Although Mr. Ogun is no longer with us, his influence continues to shape lives through the work NGiT carries out across Nigeria.The Dele Ogun Legacy Scholarship in Tech has therefore been established as a lasting tribute to his legacy.
Expanding Opportunities Through Technology
While Naija Girls in Tech remains committed to closing the gender gap in technology by empowering girls, the organization also recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for all young people who show passion and potential in the digital economy.
Through this scholarship, NGiT will support young men who demonstrate strong interest in technology but may have limited access to training and mentorship opportunities. The initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s growing technology ecosystem by ensuring that talented young people are given the tools, skills, and support needed to thrive.
Scholarship Focus Areas
The scholarship will support training in high-demand technology fields including:
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
- Cybersecurity
- UI/UX Design
- Frontend Development
- Backend Development
Selected scholars will receive fully funded participation in an NGiT technology training program, along with mentorship from instructors and industry professionals. Scholars will also benefit from hands-on project experience and potential internship opportunities that help translate learning into real-world impact.
Target Beneficiaries
The scholarship program is designed for:
- Young men aged 18–35
- Public school students or individuals with limited access to technology education
- Applicants who demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in technology.
Selection Process
Applicants will be evaluated through a structured selection process that includes:
- Demonstrated interest in technology
- A short essay or video submission
- A basic aptitude assessment.
Each cohort of the program will support up to 100 scholars, providing them with structured learning pathways and professional guidance.

Biography of John Bamidele Ogun (1969–2025)
John Bamidele Ogun, fondly known as Dele, was born on 27 April 1969 in Hull, England. Though born in the UK, he spent his formative years in Nigeria, where his character, values, and aspirations began to flourish. He attended the University of Ibadan, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a foundation that shaped his lifelong devotion to learning, growth, and understanding the world around him.
Guided by curiosity and a rising interest in the transformative power of technology, Dele later returned to the United Kingdom to further his studies. He obtained a Master’s degree in Information Technology with Security from the University of Greenwich, London, marking the beginning of a distinguished career in the IT industry.
From 1997 to 2025, Dele built a successful career as a Cloud Network Engineer, working with several multinational organisations. He was highly respected for his discipline, sharp intellect, humility, and relentless commitment to professional excellence. Continuous learning was second nature to him. He pursued certifications, took on new courses, and embraced emerging technologies with genuine excitement. He often said he wanted to “keep his mind sharp,” and he lived by that philosophy every day.
Beyond his technical abilities, Dele was a gifted communicator and a natural mentor. As an active member of Toastmasters International, London branch, he refined his public speaking and coaching skills, developing the confidence and clarity that enriched both his professional and personal interactions.
Dele was a deeply principled, forward thinking, and compassionate man whose passion for technology was matched only by his commitment to uplifting others. He believed in the power of opportunity and used his knowledge, time, and resources, often quietly, to help people find their paths. Whether through mentorship, financial support, or steady encouragement, he empowered many to pursue careers in technology long before the industry became what it is today.
A Life Rooted in Faith, Family, and Love
Above all, Dele’s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband and a devoted father whose presence brought warmth, stability, and unwavering support. His family was the centre of his world. He lived with quiet strength, humility, kindness, and intentionality, qualities that left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew him.
His Christian faith was the anchor of his life. Through seasons of achievement and moments of challenge, he remained steadfast, demonstrating resilience, compassion, and grace. His strength of character and unwavering faith continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.
